Our Story

Brew City Engraving was founded in 2014, in Milwaukee, WI (in Mark’s home) when Mark purchased his first laser engraving machine to make a gift for his friend. Turned out, his friend ACTUALLY liked it (even though the quality was not what it is today!) and before long he had people calling and messaging him for their own! After a few years of experimentation trying to figure out what he was actually doing, he ended up with a fantastic small team in Muskego, WI (just outside of Milwaukee) to help bring these amazing gifts to YOU!

Brew City Engraving now offers customized bamboo cutting boards in 3 styles, 3 sizes with 19 design options.

Attention to Detail

After you place your order on Amazon our designers review the information you provide to create the design used to engrave your board. After we have created your personalized design file our machine operator begins the laser engraving process. Once engraved, your board is washed, sanded, inspected and then double checked for accuracy before being shipped out. We take pride in our work and hope that it shows.

Our Process for Making Your Order

Ok, that all looks cool but…… Can you explain what this all means?! SURE!

1) Design – After your order is placed our graphic designer begins work within 8 business hours to create your design to get it loaded on the machines for engraving

2) Laser Engraving – After designing your order the design is loaded onto our machines for engraving, this process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to complete! (This is why we need at least 2 business days for production, or more during busy seasons!) An estimated delivery date is shown at checkout based on current production times.

3) Washing – Engraving wood creates a black sticky residue that if left on gets on food, your hands, clothes and is very hard to clean! We wash this off because leaving it on is just gross! Some manufacturers do not wash it off though as their engravings are not as deep as ours so their engraving is not visible if they wash it off! It also creates more work but we take pride in what we ship out and want it looking perfect.

4) Sanding – After being washed and dried, every board is hand sanded to a nice smooth finish.

5) Adding Options – After sanding, if you ordered any add-ons such as pre-oiling, gift wrap, display stands or anything else, we get those added and paired up with your order so it can all be shipped together.

6) Packaging – Once your board has finished production it is double checked for errors, we ensure that all your add-ons have been paired with your order for shipment and then the board and any accessories are packaged together to get handed off to our shipping carrier!

Mineral Oil Application

Pre-oiling of our bamboo cutting boards is offered as an optional add-on item during the customization & checkout process. Oiling your board can help extend its useful life, bring out richer colors in the wood and help prevent stains from setting in. Our customized bamboo boards look amazing with or without mineral oil applied & can be used without it as well. This is offered as an add-on item as you may not want it applied due to personal preference or may want to use one of the many other protect-ants on the market. Offering this as an add-on then allows us to offer our boards at a more competitive cost as well!

Acrylic Display Stands

Acrylic Display Stands are available for purchase during the customization and checkout process as well. Our stands are made of thick 0.22″ acrylic and are designed specifically to hold our engraved cutting boards at the proper viewing angle while minimizing the overall footprint to help save counter space!

2 Oz. Bottle of Mineral Oil

Also available are 2 ounce bottles of our very own mineral oil. Even if you have us pre-apply mineral oil, it is recommended that your board be re-oiled every so often. If you use the board regularly, we recommend applying mineral oil once a month. Also, If you are giving the board as a gift and are unsure of the recipients personal preferences, you can have this shipped with allowing them to choose for themselves whether or not to oil the board!

Gift Wrap

We currently offer gift wrapping services on our small & large bamboo boards. Sadly at this time this option is not currently available for our Extra Large sizes. With our gift wrap option, your board will be wrapped in a beautiful metallic bubble mailer with a bow and note card. You can select this option & enter your personalized message for the note card on the final checkout page before entering your payment information. Currently we are only able to offer the 4 colors shown above. Colors available are subject to change based on the season.

What are these marks on my board?

As bamboo is a natural product, each and every cutting board we make has its own unique characteristics and no two boards will ever be identical. Bamboo in particular grows in sections creating “knots” or “steps” in the wood of your cutting board. These marks are present in all bamboo products made and are not removed through the engraving process. Some boards will have more or less than others and may appear in different areas of the board.

Custom Designs & Logos

Would you like your logo added to your cutting boards? Have a custom design in mind? We can help! We love working on custom designs and are more than happy to help get your business logo added if you would like. These services will come with an additional fee for the added design work, though we try to keep those costs as low as possible for you. In most cases (depending on the logo or design) this can be a one time setup fee if you plan to order more in the future! Get in touch with us for more information!
